MERIT Media Relations LLC was founded in 1998 by Don Shook following his 14 years in corporate communications management with the Adolph Coors Company in Golden, Colorado.  During this time, he successfully accomplished award-winning public relations efforts for its subsidiaries Coors Brewing Company and Graphic Packaging Corporation. In 2000, MERIT Media Relations LLC moved to Las Vegas, Nevada.

Born in Washington, D.C., and raised in Chevy Chase, Maryland, Don received a Bachelor of Arts degree in communications from Hamline University in St. Paul, Minnesota. He is an honorably discharged veteran of the U.S. Air Force where he was selected for Officer Training School and pilot training.

After college and military service, Don worked for eight years in TV news and motion picture production in Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, Minneapolis and Denver. He then began a nine-year career as a commissioned law enforcement officer with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office in Golden, Colorado, serving in the County Jail, Civil Division and the uniformed Patrol Division. He achieved marksman, sharpshooter and expert levels with police weapons. After receiving FBI training, Don was appointed a kidnap/hostage negotiator. He also was named JCSO's first-ever Public Information Officer where he served for three years as the agency's spokesman.  He was also one of three high-ranking officers appointed to the Oral Review Board, the final step for applicants hoping to join the Sheriff's Office.

In 1984, he transitioned from law enforcement to public relations when he joined the Coors organization at their corporate headquarters in Golden, Colorado.

Don has been a guest lecturer in public relations and communications for undergraduate and graduate-level classes at the University of Minnesota (Minneapolis campus), Metropolitan State University of Denver, Red Rocks Community College and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). He has also been a published guest columnist in daily and weekly newspapers throughout the United States.

Don's interests include photography, international travel, puns, music, current events and "collecting" American state capitals and world continents. He also possesses a late model car that has now been driven in all 48 of the continental United States.

Don and his late wife of 37 years, Maggie, have a grown daughter living in the Boise, Idaho area. Like her father, Danielle has also set foot in all 50 of the United States.
